Dutch Association for Parents
of Twins and Super-twins
This association was set up :
- To provide information to (expecting) parents of multiple
pregnancies, doctors, nurses, social workers and students.
- To collect administrative or scientific information for members of
the NVOM whenever needed
- To organise regional information- and contact meetings (including a
national Meerlingen-Day), and bringing parents with the same experiences in contact. The
national meeting with lectures, films, workshops, General Meeting for the members, and an
exhibition for companies and organisations to present themselves in the field of twins and
super-twins.
- To maintain a network of contact persons.
- To look after the interests of parents by giving publicity to the
financial and social problems that can occur from having a (higher order) multiple
pregnancy.
- To improve and to change the adverse consequences to the target
group of the rules issued by the administration or government.
- To intermediate the selling and buying of second-hand baby- and
toddler items, by giving free advertising in the quarterly magazine (Meerlingen Magazine).
- To make lists available of companies which give discount or free
products to members who gave recently birth to a twin or super-twin.
Telephonic information point
For parents of twins and super-twins, social
workers, teachers and twins and super-twins themselves, there is a telephonic information
desk, the Meerlingentelefoon. Each Monday morning and every first and third Monday evening
of the month the information desk is staffed by experts (mostly by parents of twins or
super-twins or a twin or super-twin themselves). Problems can be discussed about
upbringing, education, choices of schools, rivalry, etc. This information desk is not for
practical questions. These questions can be posed to the contact persons.
Quarterly magazine written
in Dutch
In the Meerlingen Magazine parents of twins and
super-twins write about their experiences. The magazine contains a lot of practical tips,
advises and anecdotes. It gives useful information about pregnancy, giving
birth, breastfeeding, upbringing and education. Frequently we give attention to
(scientific)
studies or research and put grown-up twins or super-twins in the limelight. Recurrent
issues of the magazine are "my story", "advertisement for members",
"date of births", "pedagogy" and "questions/answers". Many
experts are involved with the last two columns. The magazine gives further information
about the NVOM.
